Plaque buildup (also known as atherosclerosis) is an abnormal collection of calcium and cholesterol on the artery walls of a diseased artery. This buildup can restrict blood flow to the brain or break off and become lodged in a blood vessel - causing a stroke. Early detection allows your personal physician to advise you on an appropriate course of action that could be life saving.
